A Two Piece Legging means there is a side seam
For Knit or Stretch Fabrics such as Sweatshirting, Polar Fleece, Jersey Fabrics, Lycra, Elastane, Spandex or Ponti de Roma. Due to the extra curve in this block you could also use cotton/knit blends.
Please see below for a full description.
This is a block (also known as a sloper) which is used in the fashion industry to make professional patterns able to be put into factory production.
Blocks usually have no hem or seam allowances, but due to the repetition when making this pattern, for ease of use I have included a standard 2cm waist band (3/4 inch), 2cm hem and 6mm (1/4 inch) seam allowances. This block is more like a simplified pattern.
This block is for a two piece legging at 3/4 length in a sample size
This block would be used for legings that require extra curve - your target market may be older, curvier, or you just require extra shaping and would like a side seam. Perfect for the athleisure market, or to make a pattern for yoga pants. If your market is less curvy, or you do not wish to have side seams, use the One Piece Legging Block.
This legging block is the block you need when learning flat patternmaking. This is the size fashion and design school teach from - it is the correct block to made a garment from if you intend putting this on a model in a runway show.
If you prefer to use a different size, simply grade the block up or down
Additional Information:
Available for purchase is a downloadable pdf document able to be immediately printed to your home printer.
It is printable in both US letter and A4 sizes. The pages are very easy to assemble simply match the letters and numbers of the grid and tape or stick glue into position before cutting out. I suggest you trace the block using a tracing wheel onto patternmaking card to ensure a long life.
Please ensure before you print that your printer settings are set to "DO NOT SCALE" (Print actual size)
Please print the first page (page one) as a single print job before you send the full pdf document to the printer, with your printer settings on "do not scale". This will print a test size square which you can measure to ensure the pattern will print to the correct size.
These blocks print in black ink with grainlines in red ink. You may prefer to change your print settings to "draft" to save ink.
